Hair Care for the Carefree with INH Hair

I hate doing my hair. I really do. I never feel like I can see what I’m doing, and as a result, it never really turns out the way I want. I barely even like to deal with washing it and I blow dry it only under duress. Anything beyond that - it better be a very special occasion.

However, hair is important for keeping up appearances. I’ve spent 25 years (almost 26) making taking care of my hair as simple as possible for myself. This hasn’t been easy since I frequently get bored with my hair and am tempted to succumb to whatever style or color that is currently in fashion. Luckily, nowadays there are quite a few ways to make taking care of your hair even while changing it up, super simple. Here are some ideas for getting the most out of your mane with the least effort —

  1. A good hair cut. I only need to get my hair cut a few times a year because it is so long, but when I do, I invest. My stylist knows that I only come in every few months so she cuts my hair in a way that will grow out nicely. This is something key that you can ask for if you hate repeated salon visits. You can still get your desired style, but request it for the long term. As a result, my hair retains decent shape and volume for far longer than it should.

  2. Color carefully. I never dye my whole head one color. I usually get highlights or glazes to get whatever effect I want at the moment. Highlights add tons of dimensions and change depending on my exposure to the outdoors, and glazes give me the satisfaction of a new look but wear off evenly so I don’t have to worry about my roots. Note that this is another area where an amazing colorist is key. I pretty much only have to dye my hair once a year.

  3. Learn only your most desired looks. My hair is naturally straight so the most common thing I want to do to it is give it some curl. So I know how to braid and use a variety of no heat methods to achieve a curl and I know my way around a curling iron (getting the curls to stay, however, has been a different story altogether). However, I have not spent almost any time learning updo’s or other hairstyles because they are secondary looks for me, which is where the next tip comes in.

  4. Fake it. Doing your own hair is hard. You can’t see what you’re doing and if it’s a new style, you’re just worried about how it might look in the back and how long it will last, so if you aren’t confident in your own skills - fake it. The market for wigs, extensions, and clip in extensions is only getting bigger. I even had the opportunity recently to work with INH Hair and try out some of their products in this space. 5. Intentional Product Use. Invest in good quality shampoo and conditioner, and really do your research beyond those. Some hair is much drier and will need a team of oils and creams to refresh it, while some hair is on the oilier side and begs for texturizing sprays and dry shampoos. Similar to skincare, this is not an area where following a trendy product is rewarding. Assess your own hair, consult your stylist next time you go, and go from there. For example, I only use a good quality shampoo and conditioner and some hair oil unless I’m styling my hair for something specific. That’s all I personally need.

I know there are some people out there who really enjoy doing their hair and learning intricate ways of styling, and those people truly amaze me. For me, I want my hair to be healthy enough to look great on it’s own and also withstand some fun things now and then. Speaking of fun —

INH Hair recently reached out to sponsor a blog post, and I was more than intrigued. Currently, the brand sells a huge range of hair extensions, fake ponytail hair extensions, wigs, and other hair accessories. The goal is to make changing your hair look as easy as possible.

Easy but I get to do wildly different things with my hair? I’m in.

They ended up sending me two of their wrap around ponytail hair extensions, one wig, and one of their clip in hair extensions. Being a novice with all of these types of products, I was a bit intimidated, but after a couple tries, I got the hang of it and their products do truly create an easy way to change up your look with absolutely zero commitment.

Below are just a few of the ways you can fake it for those few times might want to amp up your own beautiful hair —

My personal favorite! I’m wearing the Lola Pony in Honey. It’s a ponytail hair extension that clips right on to your normal ponytail.

These are the 22” U-Clip Extension in Honey. I can totally see myself using these hair extensions the next time I cut off my hair and want to have long hair for just a day or two.

This is the Brit Pony in Honey. Another ponytail hair extension, but this one starts to amp up the drama a bit, I feel like Ariana Grande when I wear it.
